When the company I worked for was awarded the Headquarters & Conference Center for then up-and-coming rehabilitation giant Healthsouth, I was a very young project manager with only a few short years under my belt. This was one of the first major projects that I was heavily involved in from start to finish, and included over 6 months of dedicated on-site observation to facilitate a fast-track pace of construction.  The project’s lead architect and I shared space in the General Contractor’s field offices to be readily available to answer any questions, issue revisions and supplemental details, and make instant decisions, in order to keep the project on-schedule.  The first day of Design to “Grand Opening” was only around 15 months, which was an incredible pace…  The project had a budget allowing (and demanding) upscale materials, custom features, and included special custom handrail and stair designs, custom elevator cabs, hand-made wool carpets, food service areas, large-span interiors of the conference center that included 30 foot tall re-configurable walls, a stage and audio/visual rooms, and other specialty items requiring a high level of detail and craft.  None of the team slept much during those hectic months, but it was great experience and we were proud to see it come together.
